Cars are one of the biggest liabilities for most people. We want fast, luxury, and that staple to our image... or at least most of us peasants. I would totally take a fast car if I could afford the insurance and taxes. (Ha)
Car maintenance is crucial with any car, and some people have to rely on the "experts" to change oil, brakes, rotate tires, etc.
Just YouTube it, you'll be surprised what you find and how easy simple maintenance can be.
Some common things to get done yearly if not quarterly :
- Oil Change (Know your car for what type of oil it takes, some of the newer cars makes it impossible to change the oil, so make sure you know a trust worthy mechanic in your town)
- Rotate Tires (So that the tires don't wear down differently)
- Fluids (Change and Check frequently)
- Storage (Fuel cleaners if sitting, no ethanol gas, covers, cleaners, etc. Weather : Water, Chemical and Salt can all mess up the paint / parts of a car)
- 50K mile checkups can be expensive just make sure you budget for a little maintenance in the beginning for quality of your car for the long-run. 100K mile checkups could be even more expensive.
I always think of two things, necessities for car and luxuries for cars
- Necessities is whatever keeps the car running at peak and safe performance.
- Luxuries are those things that are aesthetic (to show off) and for comfort of the car.
Some expenses
- Title / Plates
- Sales Tax (Unless in Montana)
- Registration
- Insurance

If you can imagine, some of my friends just now hustling will rent out their car to airports. Now in 2021 this isn't a bad idea as there is a shortage of cars to rent because of this weirdness. This is how you can make your car an asset instead of a liability.
